On our recent trip to Coolendel (which you can read here or watch here ) Lauren, Luca and I finally managed to get out on the water together for the very first time. Feeling quite anxious about whether Luca would like it or not, I was very relieved at how excited he was playing in the water and paddling around, so much so that he didn’t want to go when we had to leave.
When Luca was born, among a long list of new responsibilities I took on, there was one in particular which I felt I needed to address – Acquiring a PFD for Luca so that I can share my passion of being around the water with him. My initial search began at the Sydney International Boat Show in 2010 when he was only two months old. This search was to get a feel for what was available and to be quite honest there doesn’t seem to be a lot of options when it comes to toddlers PFD’s. I held off purchasing anything as the few I did see were rather expensive and didn’t really look like they would fit too well, I also figured that it wouldn’t be until this summer that he would be old enough to get out on the boats and kayaks with me anyway.
A couple of months ago a conversation with Steve Fields led to us talking about PFD’s for children. Hobie now has a brand new line of product called Hobie Star Fish – Children’s yellow/red PFD’s available in extra small, small and medium sizes with a MRRP of $69.00. They are a brand new product line so you will need to contact the guys at www.hobiefishing.com.au or your nearest Hobie dealer for more information.
Now that I know that Luca enjoys being around the water and has his very own PFD, I’m looking forward to getting him out on the water with me a lot more.
