A few weeks ago I got a “check out this link” email from Marcel Krieger that took me to a page on the Humminbird Site announcing their new sounder technology called 360 Imaging. Some of you may have seen this already because Steve Morgan has already posted it up on the Fishing Monthly Forums, but for those of you who haven’t I encourage you to take a look.
So, taking the information at face value, 360 Imaging will offer an unprecedented 360 degree view in a 150 foot radius around your boat creating “300-foot circle—updated in real time”.
What does this mean? Well according to Humminbird, “For the first time ever, you can see up to 150 feet in front of your boat, either in full 360 mode or by isolating your sweep area. With valuable intelligence on fish-holding structure and cover waiting up ahead, you can cast to productive areas without spooking fish”.
Have I got your interest yet? I spoke to Marcel and he tells me that to obtain the technology, current side imaging units (for full details check out the Humminbird site) will require a software upgrade and the purchase of the 360 Imaging transducer
It’s still a way off and not expected in the US until later in the year, but certainly an exciting prospect. It will be interesting to see the associated costs for the upgrade, but until then you can check out the commercial…
