A couple of weeks ago I ran down my plan for rods and reels for the upcoming Hobie Worlds in a month or so. That was the easy part. Now I need to somehow cull the massive amount of other hardware down to something less than the afore mentioned 74kg and into what I referred to in the last article as “the greatest hits”
The big part of the problem is that Largemouth Bass take such a huge variety of lures. A lot of which I already have a selection of and some that will need to be bought when I get there. Lipless cranks, spinnerbaits, crankbaits, skirted jigs, soft plastic swimbaits, the list goes on……. these are the things I have that could get a run or they are things that may just take up space.
I’ve been doing some thinking and I have come to the conclusion that, in the immortal words of Bruce Lee, I should “Be like water…. Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.”
I’m already most of the way there because because my mind is already empty but the point is that I want to try and go to the US without too many pre conceived plans and buy what I need once I get there. Don’t get me wrong I’ll still take a bunch of lures but I think I’m going to have a bit of a shopping spree the afternoon before the comp starts because I could quite easily spend thousands on lures before leaving Australia (if I had thousands that is) and once I get there find out that 80% of it doesn’t fit with what the bite is. As I mentioned before, the lakes that are being fished have a huge array of techniques too and I could get there and it’s all topwater, all day and I’d be better of spending my tackle budget there at the time.
