Justin Dingwall takes our Lucky 7 interview this week. A prolific fisherman, Justin was one of a few talented Aussies to represent Australia at the 2nd Hobie Worlds Fishing Championships in Texas last year.
1. What’s your name and where are you from?
What’s your name and where are you from? Justin Dingwall, 22, from Sale, Victoria
2. What part do you play in the fishing community today?
3. What is it that really got you into fishing and how old were you?
My dad got me into fishing at a young age but the one thing that really got me into it was when I had just started fishing lures at the age of 14. I bought myself a couple of lures, Strike Pro Pygmys I’m pretty sure it was. I took them down to my local creek and started casting and didn’t really know how to work them so a slow roll it was. A few casts later I hooked and landed my first bream on lure and from that moment onwards I was hooked and wanted to keep doing it and learn a lot more about doing with lures!
4. What is your greatest fishing memory?
That would have to be taking part in the 2nd Hobie Worlds in Texas, chasing Largemouth Bass!! Meeting so many new friends, catching fish I could of only dreamed to catch and learning a lot more techniques to help better my fishing! I was amazed at how largemouth bass would slam a lure so hard! And they would dog it out right from the depths and still have energy at the top to leap out of the water and perform a few arial tricks!
5. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Still fishing I hope!! I’ve learned a lot to quit and still had so much more to learn to make myself a better fisherman!
6. What’s top of the fishing “bucket list”?
A big Jew for me! Seeing so many photos and hearing about how much hard work they are makes them such a rewarding fish to catch! I’ve only caught one little one and it went like a train for its size so I can only imagine the 1m+ jobs how awesome they would be!
7. Who do you look up to in the fishing community?
So hard to pin point just one or even a couple, there are so many awesome fisherman out there! Mainly the Hobie fisherman I look up to considering that’s my main style of fishing! Oh, and also Brett Geddes, he’s showed me a few things along the way and helps me out a bit and his knowledge of areas without sounders and and how to work lures. He amazes me everytime!
