Our final Lucky 7 for 2013 is with Ashley Rae. “She Loves To Fish” – basically sums it all up. Enjoy the read.
1. What’s your name and where are you from?
I’m Ashley Rae currently living in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. My home town is Napanee on the Bay of Quinte (also in Ontario).
2. What part do you play in the fishing community today?
I guess you could say my title is ‘TV Fishing Show Host/Blogger/Fishing Enthusiast/Public Speaker’ but my goal is to inspire others with my own fishing adventures, connect with anglers around the world and share my passion for the sport. I fish year round, by boat, kayak, from shore, fly fishing or ice fishing. I can’t get enough of being on the water in any form.
3. What was it that really got you into fishing and how old were you?
I was introduced to fishing by a family friend. Neither of my parents fished, but we made a yearly trip to Twin Oaks Lodge on Lake Kashwakamak and Arnold, the lodge owner, took my brother and I fishing the moment we arrived. Arnold passed away years ago, but ignited the spark of fishing into my life, and I hope to do the same for others.
4. What is your greatest fishing memory?
I am fortunate to have so many great fishing memories. One of my greatest memories this year was seeing my 80-year-old grandmother reel in her first carp! It was early evening and we headed down to a beach where they feed in the spring. I started a small campfire, rigged her rod and casted it out. As I was preparing my own rod, she had a bite and it was just an unforgettable moment to see the excitement she had!
5. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I have hosted 2 TV show episodes, and my dream is to have a full series. I want to continue to write, share my passion for fishing and also travel. I am happy where I am at, and would like to continue to expand on sharing my passion for fishing around the world.
6. What’s top of the “bucket list”?
Tarpon on the fly… my dream fish! I’ve had dreams and nightmares about it. It just has to happen someday.
7. Who do you look up to in the fishing community?
I admire people all around me, as I am fortunate to meet so many great people with positive attitudes. Whether it’s people in my local fishing community, or even around the world. Anyone doing what they love is inspiration to me.
